President Maithripala Sirisena says the experiences and maturity gained by Sri Lanka Army by overcoming all the challenges of three decades of conflict, gave the strengthen to them to conquer all the future challenges.
The President made these remarks participating in the 92nd passing out parade of the Faculty of Science of Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa, on December 17.
Speaking further, the President said the Sri Lanka Army was not only limited to one who was successful in the war but also we should appreciate the assistance rendered by them to the development of the country.
President Sirisena recalled that the national security is a priority of Sri Lanka as similar to any country in the world, and said that Sri Lanka Army has a responsibility of national security as well as regarding the regional security.
The President also pointed out that the Sri Lankan army is a strong and a respected army in the whole world and said that they have obtained this honor because of their maturity that was obtained through their discipline, skills, training and experiences.
Speaking further, he said that the officers of the three armed forces who rendered yeoman service to the victims of the war as well as in various disastrous situations that prevailed in the country were very remarkable. The President also said that all the citizens of the country must respect the armed forces in this regard.
The Commandant of the Institute Brigadier Priyantha Senaratne warmly welcomed the President when he arrived at the Academy. The President also paid floral tribute to War Hero Memorial at the premises of the Academy.
191 cadet officers will join the Sri Lanka army after successfully following this military training.
The cadet officers who showed outstanding performance during their military training received medals from the President.
The Defence Secretary Kapila Waidyaratne, the Commander of the Army Mahesh Senanayake and many others participated on this occasion.
