A new committee is to be appointed on Monday to present proposals and ideas to reorganize and address existing issues in Sri Lankan Airlines.
All parties will be given the opportunity to submit proposals and ideas on improving Sri Lankan Airlines at the committee.
The President has decided to appoint this Committee consisting of five members as they are to submit the recommendations to the President within two weeks time. The President will take further decisions on Sri Lankan Airlines,based on the outcomes or the recommendations.
This was stated by President Maithripala Sirisena today (04) when discussing about the present status of Sri Lankan Airlines.
The President instructed the officials to immediately implement the necessary arrangements to support the reorganization process of the Sri Lankan Airlines.
Members of the Board of Directors pointed out that the initial steps of this process Sri is to bring down losses to the airline in the future. The reasons that led to the loss of the past years and the current challenges and activities.
Attention was also focused on the disadvantaged Sri Lankan Airlines commitments, including the increase in oil prices, the rupee and the devaluation of the region, technical and infrastructure deficiencies. Members of the Board of Directors pointed out that the initial steps was to bring down the airline’s losses due to
the airline’s loyalty program as well.
The Presidential Commission appointed by the President, that will be looking into the irregularities are underway.
Ministers Mangala Samaraweera, Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramaratne, President’s Secretary Udaya R Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Dr. HS Samarathunge, Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy, Chairmen of State Banks and Heads of Institutions belonging to Sri Lankan Airlines, Vipula Gunatilake, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lankan Airlines and members of the Board of Directors were present at the meeting.
