A meeting was held between Speaker of the Parliament, Karu Jayasuriya, and the representatives of the political parties of United National Front and the Tamil National Alliance met President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s office today(15).
In the 2-hour long meeting discussions were held regarding the current political developments.
The leaders of those political parties said that the majority is with them and asked the President to accept it and the President admitted that he would conduct his duties in accordance with the Constitution.
Thus the President informed them to show that the majority is with them respecting the traditions of the Parliament.
Removing the Proposal No 1 presented to the Parliament on November 14 and convening the Parliament again tomorrow was also came under consideration while the President asked the representatives to hold the voting by the names of the Members of Parliament.
The President asked them to show the majority of the Parliament and informed the representatives that this issue can be conducted in accordance with the Constitution.
Thus the President asked all the parties representing Parliament to ensure the peaceful conduct in the parliament and to carry the duties in accordance with the Constitution and the Standing Orders of the Parliament.
