The President said a new phase of the country’s development program as well as the Polonnaruwa development would be launched in next December.

President Maithripala Sirisena made this statement addressing a function held in Polonnaruwa this (28th) afternoon.

The President also stated that he is in good health and would not retire in order to continue his agenda for the country and the people.

The President further stated that he had joined history making a significant contribution to the development of the Polonnaruwa District during the past five years

The ceremony was held to mark the opening of the Polonnaruwa Isipathana Welfare Society’s community hall. Chief Incumbent of the North and North Central Provinces Isipathana Viharadhipathi in Polonnaruwa, Ven. Udagama Dhammananda Nayaka Thero and Sangha, Polonnaruwa Mayor Mr. Sidath Ranasinghe and public representatives were also present on this occasion.

The President vested the OPD, clinical and administrative building constructed at the Welikanda Regional Hospital at a cost of Rs. 213 million with the public today.

The President also registered the first patient admitted to the hospital.

Welikanda Regional Hospital is being developed as a fully equipped hospital with the objective of uplifting the health of the people living in the area under the ‘Awaking Polonnaruwa District Program’.

The President also declared open the new classroom building at Kadawathmaduwa Vidyalaya in Dimbulagala today. Similarly, it was built under the ‘Awaking Polonnaruwa District Programm’ and Rs. 72 Lakhs had been spent for that.

The President was warmly welcomed by the students. The President unveiled the plaque and opened the new building and observed the activities of the college students.

The principal, teaching staff, parents and old students were also present in this occasion.
