China is ready to take forward the 60-year old China – Sri Lanka relationships in a more robust way under President Maithripala Sirisena, Chairman of the Chinse People’s Political Consultative Conference Yu Zhengsheng said.
He made these comments when he paid a courtesy call on President Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat (07).
China is a true friend and a brother to Sri Lanka said the Chairman while adding that his country is committed to strengthen these bilateral relations further.
When entering into investment agreements and projects with Sri Lanka, China expects to carry out the process while safeguarding constitution of Sri Lanka, territorial integrity and the independence of Sri Lanka, he further said.
The two countries should take every effort to strengthen historical cultural, political and economic relations said Mr. Yu Zhengsheng and expressed his gratitude to Sri Lanka for always supporting and co-operating with China at the international platforms.
Chairman pointed out Sri Lanka’s possibility of becoming a regional hub of South Asia in naval and aviation sectors and pledged China’s continuous assistance towards Sri Lanka in its future development projects.
He further extended greeting from the President of China to President Sirisena and invited him to visit China again at a convenient time in the future.
He also expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received when visiting Sri Lanka.
President Sirisena thanked China for its assistance towards to development of Sri Lanka as well as the assistance at international platforms.
President recalled the assistance received from China when defeating the 30-year old struggle to liberate the country from terrorism and Sri Lanka will also adhere to “One China” policy.
He also recalled his visit to China in 1978 as a young political activist.
President Sirisena appreciated China’s close relationship with Sri Lanka and said that he expects China will be more engage in future development projects in Sri Lanka.
President also thanked to the Government of China for donating new OPD building complex to the National Hospital which foundation stone laid today (07).
President also mentioned that the China donated New Hospital at Polonnaruwa to treat the patients with the mysterious kidney disease will be start its construction from July in this year and special thanks given to the Government of China for acceptance of request.
Ministers Mangala Samaraweera, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Gayantha Karunanayake, Faiszer Musthapha, and counterpart delegation from the Republic of China were present at the meeting.
