The President said that even though various problems of the people arose during the previous regime, those leaders paid attention only to develop certain area in the country. 

The President further said that though the benefits common public received was minimized due to the fraud, corruption and malpractice in those projects, priority was given for the mega development projects.

He made these remarks participating in a ceremony to open the newly built two-storeyed building at the Welikanda Pradeshiya Sabha.

President Sirisena said that the present Government has given priority to launch development projects which gives reliefs for the difficulties faced by the people in their day to day lives as well as which gives genuine benefits for the people in rural areas as well as the people in urban areas.

The President said that through enhancing the facilities of the institutions that provide services for the public, the officers can deliver their service today with a satisfied mind. He also said that in any way it is not politically motivated development process.

The President, quoting the social surveys, pointed out that the marriages and pregnancies among the youth at minor-ages, as well as the drug use among children have been increased in Welikanda area. He emphasized that the government will create a special program to change this situation which challenges the future of the children. He said this program should be implemented through the unity of the Maha Sangha, other religious leaders and all those who are in the fields of health and education.

The President also vested the two stored class room at Velikanda Maha Vidyalaya, Polonnaruwa, with students. 

This has been built under the ‘Rajarata Nawodaya – Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ District Development Program. 

The President who observed the newly built class room had cordial discussions with the students. 

Chief Minister of North Central Province Peshala Jayarathne, Provincial Health Minister M. Herath Banda and Provincial Minister Sampath Sri Nilantha also joined the President at this occasion.
