President Maithripala Sirisena chaired a special discussion with regard to resettlement and providing land to the displaced people of Mannar at the Presidential Secretariat this evening.
The lengthy discussion focused on identifying the lands.
The President advised to use the land that are under the District Secretary’s purview, while emphasizing to pay special attention to protect the thick forest cover in the area.
According to the latest figures, 1734 families in the Mannar district have requested for land, where 902 of them have been recommended as suitable to receive land.
Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, District Secretary of Mannar, Divisional Secretaries and senior government officials were present at the discussion.
