The Government will take proactive steps with immediate effect to address the shortage of anaesthetists in the health sector of the country, which is also a vital problem, said President Maithripala Sirisena.
He made these remarks participating at the inauguration ceremony of the 12th SAARC Association of Anaesthesiology Conference and the 33rd Annual Academic Congress organized by the College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists of Sri Lanka, held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, today (24).
The public has faced many difficulties due to their surgeries are getting delayed because of shortage of anesthetists, the President said this adding that the Government has paid special attention in this regard.
The 33rd Annual Academic Congress will be held in Colombo till next 26th with the participation of nearly 400 medical professionals from the South Asian region.
The Chairman of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain, Dr William Harrop-Griffiths participated as the Special Guest at the inauguration ceremony.
Dr.Rajitha Senarathne and the President of the College of Anaesthesiologists & Intensivists of Sri Lanka Dr. Kanishka Indraratna and many others participated in this Conference.
