The ceremony organized by the Shanthi Foundation to invoke merits to more than thousand national heroes including Weera Keppetipola who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle in Uva Wellassa which commemorates its 200th Anniversary was held at Seruwila Buddhist Centre, Colombo 7 under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena today (25).
President Sirisena participated in the ceremony offering flowers to the portrait of Keppetipola and engaged in offering Dhana in the morning to the Buddhist monks.
The special offering of merits for those who have dedicated their lives in the freedom fight took place under the patronage of Most Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero of Sri Lanka Amarapura Nikaya and the special speech on Weera Keeptipola was delivered by the Chief incumbent of Seruwila Buddhist Centre Ven. Kotapola Amarakiththi Thero.
The Mahasangha and the Minister of Buddha Sasana Udaya Gammanpila and other devotees were present in this event.
