President Maithripala Sirisena says it is the responsibility of every minister to implement necessary development projects in their respective districts utilizing allocated funds.

The President made these remarks participating at the progress review meeting on the development programmes carried out in Polonnaruwa district held at the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat, today (27).

President Sirisena pointed out the importance of taking steps to look into the issues of the people living in the rural areas by regional political leaders in collaboration with the field officers. He also gave instructions to select villages with the highest poverty level in their respective villages and to implement a programme to develop those as model villages.

Furthermore, the President emphasized not to consider party differences when distributing benefits to the people.

During this meeting, it was discussed in detail regarding the progress of the development projects launched under the “Pibidemu Polonnaruwa (Awakening of Polonnaruwa)” District Development Project.

The President instructed the officials to swiftly deliver the development benefits of the completed projects to the public.

During the meeting, the President looked into the progress of the development activities carried out with regard to the Polonnaruwa Town Plan , drinking water issues, matters related to the agricultural field, health facilities, road constructions as well as the projects implemented to develop schools, temples and religious places.
