The National Stroke Day Walk was commenced from the Vihara Mahadevi Park in Colombo under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, today (26).
The National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka organized the walk with the aim of prevention of strokes by educating the public on the disease.
The President also appreciated the service rendered by the National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka to eliminate the disease from the country.
President of the National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka, M.T.M. Rifzie expressed his gratitude to the President for his yeoman services for the health sector.
Stroke is a sudden illness due to the sudden death of brain cells because of lack of oxygen, caused by blockage of blood flow or rupture of an artery to the brain, and it is also the 2nd leading cause of death in the world .
Patron of the National Stroke Association Dr. J.B. Peiris Neurologist Dr. Padma Gunaratne and many doctors and artistes were among the large gathering present.
