President Mahinda Rajapaksa today visited several areas in the North that were liberated from the terror of the LTTE earlier this year.
He visited Pudumathalan in Mullaitivu district, the former military stronghold of the LTTE, where he dedicated the memorial to the heroes of war.
The monument is located at the Pudumathalan battleground where some fierce fighting took place between the security forces and the LTTE.
He next proceeded to Shrine of Virgin Mary at Madhu, an important pilgrim centre for Catholics, which was close to worshippers until it was liberated and restored by the Sri Lankan Army in 2008.
