President Mahinda Rajapaksa has assured Opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe that there was no reason for any concern over General (retd.) Sarath Fonseka who is in detention.
President said this when the latter called on him at Janadhipathy Mandiraya this morning to discuss the issue of the detention of Gen Fonseka. He explained that the investigations are underway and due process would be followed.
The Rule of Law must prevail and if the allegations against him are not established he will be free, President Rajapaksa said.
Furthermore, the President categorically stated that no one is above law and that Gen Fonseka’s candidacy at the last Presidential Election has no relevance to the current investigations.
