President Mahinda Rajapaksa asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to apprise him of any detention of a journalist. 
 
The President at present holds the portfolio of Mass Media and Information after acceding to the request made by Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to relieve him of the portfolio of Mass Media and Information because of his preoccupation with the election campaign in Kurunegala District.
