The traditional Oil Anointing State Ceremony of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year was held at Sri Natha Devalaya at the Premises of the Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic today (April 15) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Maha Nayaka of Asgiri Chapter of the Shyamopali Maha Nikaya Most Ven. Varakagoda Gnanarathana Thero anointed oil on the head of the President at the auspicious time (11.04am) while the Maha Sangha was chanting Jaya pirith.
The Ayurvedic handbook and the casket were handed over to the President by Commissioner of Ayurveda, L. H. Thilakarathne at this occasion.
The President launched the website on the Ayurvedic hospitals and engaged in religious activities in the Natha Devalaya. He also joined the alms giving held at the premises of the devalaya.
President Sirisena extended the greetings to the people gathered in the devalaya and had cordial discussions with them.
Anu Nayaka of Malwathu Chapter of Shyamopali Maha Nikaya Most Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thero, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senarathne, Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala, Governor of the Central Province Niluka Ekanayaka, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka and the Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Delabandara were among those present at this occasion.
