The expectation of today’s people are for such political figures who are against corruption and absolutely committed to democracy says President Maithripala Sirisena.

President Sirisena stated this at a ceremony to unveil the statue of late M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena who was a prominent political activist of SLFPA held today (10) at Kanthale Municipal Council premises. The late M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardana accomplished a great deal of social service to the people in Trincomalee district being in politics for decades, the President said.

Addressing the audience President Sirisena further stated that the character of M.K.A.D.S. is of the honest and he was an excellent political figure.

Mr.Gunerwardena who fought against corruption was a dedicated leader towards securing democracy and freedom, said the President.

President stressed the country is in need of such political figures today.

The President also recalled with gratitude that Mr Gunawardena was a strength to him when he, as the Presidential Candidate, was working towards “Yuga Peraliya” on 8th of January 2018.

The President who spoke about the development of Trincomalee said that the government has conducted a broad program for this.

A special program was conducted by the President’s office towards the development of reservoirs of the districts. President pointed out that a lot of development projects have been completed under this ensuring that the further development projects in Trincomalee district will provide full benefits of development to the people.

President who said that the construction of Wayambe Maha Ela will be commencing on 24th of this month where the issues regarding drinking water and Agriculture other issues of the people of Trincomalee district will be given solutions through the Moragahkaand -Wayamba Ela project that is being completed successfully now.

The President who unveiled the statue of M.K.A.D.S. Gunewardena placed a bouquet of flowers at the statue.

Later, the new Council hall of the Kanthale Town Council, constructed under the project to develop North Eastern provinces was vested with the people by the President.

The amount spent on this was Rs.83 million which has a two floor Council hall with an auditorium composed of thousand seats.

9 water purification systems were constructed to give clean water to the people of Trincomalee district and were opened for the usage of the people through distant communication technology by the President.

160 graduates of the district were given teaching appointments by the President under the program to provide teaching appointments.

President also presented land deeds to 5 farmers symbolically under the program to present land deeds for the farmer community of Kanthale divisional secretariat.

Governor of the Eastern Province Rohitha Bogollagma, Minister Duminda Dissananyake, SLFP Seruwila District Organizer Nalin Gunerwardena, SLFP Trincomalee District Organizer Ariywawathi Galapaththi, Aruna Sirisena and representatives of the district, government officers, security forces representatives, and Mrs. M.K.A.D.S. Gunerwardena, son and other family members were present in this event.
