President Maithripala Sirisena said that there were many successes as well as some failures in the drive to fulfill the hopes and aspirations the people placed on him when they elected him as the Head of State. However, it is my ardent desire to further consolidate the successes during the remaining part of his tenure and fulfill the promises that have not been done so far, he said.
President Sirisena emphasized this when addressing the public rally after unveiling the new green city of Laggala today (08th).
The President recalled that he took steps for the establishment of democracy for all the people, ensured their freedom and build a society which, free from fear, enjoy media freedom, an independent judiciary, build an impartial public service and build the national economy during last four years.
The fraud, corruption and irregularities were the key challenge of building a country and during the last four years attempts were made to alleviation them with commitment, he said and invited everybody to join hands to eliminate corruption in the country.
The President further expressing his thoughts said that at present the country does not need people who do not work according to their personal agendas and only considering the power, but people who work according to a common agenda for the benefit of the country and the people. He invited everyone to join together in the New Year to commence a new journey with new strategies.
President Sirisena said that as the gigantic Moragahakanda-Kalu Ganga project has been implemented and he can only be truly happy, when a solution is provided to the water issue of the people in the North.
The President emphasized that he will do whatever possible to build peace and reconciliation among the communities when fulfilling the broad responsibility of creating a society where people could live without fear as well as freedom, democracy and economic prosperity.
President Sirisena complete four years in office today and an all-night Pirith chanting ceremony was held at the premises of the Presidential Secretariat to mark completion of four years in office and to invoke blessings on the President, yesterday (07).
Meanwhile, the 120th birth anniversary celebration of late Prime Minister and the founder of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, was held near his statue at the Galle Face Green, today (08) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
“Maithree tenure – a sustainable era” was marked as the five year approach of the economical and cultural renaissance where old Laggala town which was submerged under Moragahakanda Kalugaga reservoir was replaced by the new Laggala green city. President Sirisena vested the new Laggala town with the people.
The other huge reservoir belonging to Moragahakanda reservoir which is the Kalugaga Reservoir was also vested with the people by the President.
The most essential services are available in the new Laggla for 3000 families displaced by the Moragahakanda Kalugaga project. The new Laggala city has been built with an investment of Rs.4500 million under the new golden city concept.
Buildings were constructed for 26 public offices with easy access to the people. The Laggala new Divisional Secretariat, Hospital and the Pallegama Central College were also declared open by the President.
The new town also comprises of police station, sports stadium, market, central bus stand, Govi Jana Sewa Centre, post office, health centre, road systems, and other public services and public infrastructure.
A number of ministers also attended the ceremonies to vest the Laggala facilities with the people.
All these development projects were vested in the public to mark the completion of 4 years of the tenure of President Maithripala Sieisena and they have been hailed as great development achieved by President Sirisena during the four years.
