President Maithripala Sirisena chaired a meeting on implementing of a proper program to preserve ancient books written on ola leaves in the temples across the country. The meeting was held today (May 03) at the Presidential Secretariat.
At this meeting the President directed officials to hand over a report on the program carried out by the government on this regard. He also directed them to include future plans new ideas and proposals about this preservation work.
The importance of preservation of all ola books which are currently with traditional indigenous doctors also was emphasized during this discussion.
The ideas and proposals of the representatives of the Archeological Department, Department of National Archives and the Central Cultural Fund were taken into consideration.
President Sirisena emphasized the importance of expanding of the staff as some officials pointed out the problem the lack of workers for this task.
A decision was taken to implement the relevant program after discussions with the scholars in the field.
Maha Sangha led by Ven. Dr. Akuratiye Nanda Thero and the officials of the Ministry of Buddha Shasana joined this discussion.
