President Maithripala Sirisena says today everyone needs to work unitedly to achieve common goals and objectives for the future of our country and nation instead of answering and chasing allegations and criticisms.
He made these remarks participating at the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Sustain Lanka’ National Celebration held at the BMICH, today (31).
Addressing the gathering, President Sirisena said that the core foundation of development is to stand on one’s own feet, and further said that every country in the world has achieved their development goals with self esteem and rising on their own strength.
The President also said that to develop as a country we need an attitude change and further said that we should move forward as a country which achieved Sustainable Development Goals and Millennium Development Goals.
‘Sustain Lanka’ National Celebration, organized in parallel to the three year plan for a Toxin Free Nation, a concept of President Maithripala Sirisena and in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals announced by the United Nations, will be held from March 31st to April 04th at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall.
Sustain Lanka National Celebration will be held covering the Sustainable Development goals of poverty, agriculture, health, education, women empowerment, water, energy, employment, industries, reduce inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, climate change, marine biodiversity, peace and implementation of a common plan, announced by the UN at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit 2015.
The ministries and public and private institutions have arranged exhibition stalls in a way to express their contribution for achieving above goals. The President observed those exhibition stalls.
The President presented the guidance book ‘Thirasara Sanvardhana Ilakka Ekva Jaya Gamu’ (Let’s Win the Sustainable Development Goals Together) to the Agricultural Research Officers on this occasion.
The handbook, ‘Dena Govithena’ was presented to the representatives of farmer organizations.
President Sirisena presented certificates for the institutions which produced organic fertilizer according to the directive of the Department of Agriculture.
The Director of the presidential special projects of Trincomalee District Priyantha Pathirana presented a letter on the victory of the ‘Gokanna Revolution, Launched against the Toxin Terrorism’ to the President.
The President also presented the documents, symbolizing the delivery of 210 Rice planting machines and 1000 weed picking machines, aiming to produce young agricultural entrepreneurs.
Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero, Ministers Mahinda Samarasinghe, Susil Premajayantha, Nimal Siripala De Silva, Ravi Karunanayake, Duminda Dissanayake, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Daya Gamage and Sarath Fonseka, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Una McCaully and the Chairman of SEMA Ashoka Abeygunawardena were among those participated in this occasion.
