President Maithripala Sirisena left the country today (Mar. 06) to attend the Indian Ocean Rim Association Leaders’ Summit to be held in Jakarta and to pay a state visit to Indonesia.
The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary in March 2017. Indonesia, as the current Chair of IORA, will host the first ever IORA Leaders’ Summit in Jakarta from March 7 to 8, under the theme”Strengthening Maritime Cooperation for a Peaceful, Stable, and Prosperous Indian Ocean”. The Summit will bring together the Leaders of the 21 IORA Member States and its 7 Dialogue Partners as well as other special invitees and guests.
The President is scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Summit tomorrow and later he will deliver a special speech at the Summit.
During President Sirisena’s visit Sri Lanka will sign two agreements on cooperation in the fields of fisheries and small and medium enterprises.
President Sirisena is accompanied by State Minister V. Radhakrishnan and Deputy Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe.
