The largest and fully equipped sports stadium in the Central Province was vested with public by President Maithripala Sirisena today (March 1).
The stadium which consists of athletics track, swimming pool, auditorium, indoor training unit, fully equipped volleyball ground, net ball ground and body building training center has been built in Digana in Kandy at a cost of Rs. 338 millions, funded by the Central Provincial Council and the Government.
The President opened the sports stadium by unveiling the plaque. He also made an observation visit in the stadium.
President Sirisena watched the swimming competition of the students of Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy at the new stadium. He also watched inter-school games of the Kandy District.
Minister Lakshman Kiriella, Governor of the Central Province Niluka Ekanayake, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and the Sports Minister of Central Province Pramitha Bandara also participated in this occasion.
