President Maithripala Sirisena opened the newly built museum at the Gorakana Purana Kande Vihara in Panadura Keselwatta, yesterday (21).
This temple comprises of many ancient heritagess such as the Vahalkada, Pohoya house, preaching hall, dwelling house, image house and the Sthupa.
The new museum was built in the 400 years old Sangawasaya of the temple.
This is the first time a President of the country has visited the Gorakana Purana Kande Vihara. The President engaged in religious observances and received blessings from the Mahasangha.
The chief incumbent of the Gorakana Purana Kande Vihara, Most Ven. Wimalakitti Thera also attended the event.
After unveiling the plaque of the new museum the President made an inspection tour in the museum.
In parallel to this event the statue of Most Ven. Vadduwe Dhammanandhabhidhana Thera erected in the temple was unveiled by the Malwathu Chapter Anunayake Most Ven Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thera.
The Maha Sangha including, Most Ven Aggamaha Panditha Kotugoda Dhammawasa Maha Nayaka Thero, the Pirivenadhipathi of the Vidyodaya Pirivena Maligakanda, in Colombo, Ven. Balangoda Sobitha Nayaka Thero, Ministers Mahinda Samarasinghe, Mangala Samaraweera and many others participated in this event.
