President Maithripala Sirisena paid homage to the historic Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya, on April 22.
The President also looked into the well-being of the Chief Incumbent of the Mahiyangana temple, Urulawatte Dhammarakkitha Thero and offered Ata Pirikara.
Later the President engaged in religious observances at the Temple and worshiped the Dathu Mandiraya
The President planted a mango sapling at the temple premises to mark his visit to the historic temple.
President Sirisena provided financial aid to Adaulpata Buddhasara thero, who survived from Aranthalawa Bhikku massacre in 1987 and also donated a van to the Thero for the convenience of his transportation. The President also provided financial aid to the disabled war hero H.A. Suresh Kumara.
Ven. Urulawatte Dhammarakkitha Thero presented one million rupees to the President to utilize for the temple development fund.
Minister Daya Gamage, Lakshman Senevirathna, Chief Minister of the Central Province Sarath Ekanayake and devotees participated in this event.
