President Maithripala Sirisena as the First Scout of Sri Lanka today (July 23) presented the National Flag to the Sri Lankan scouts team which is participating in the World Scout Jamboree in Japan.
The World Scout Jamboree is to be held from July 29 to August 01 in Yamiguchi in Japan, with participation of about 30,000 scouts representing 162 countries where the scout moment is practiced. One hundred and twenty (120) scouts will participate in this, representing Sri Lanka.
President Sirisena addressing the scouts emphasized that this is an important occasion to showcase the Sri Lankan identity to the world.
Recalling his scouting days as a school student, president said the discipline he developed as a scout was of tremendous help for him to take responsibilities of exalted position as a President.
Chief Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scouts Prof. Nimal de Silva and International Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scouts Janaprith Fernando were among those participated in this occasion.
