A Special Coordination Committee Meeting of the Polonnaruwa district was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Pulathisipura National Education Academy Auditorium, yesterday (18).
During the meeting it was discussed in detail regarding the progress of the projects being carried out in the Polonnaruwa district as well as regarding the future plans for the district.
The special attention of the President was drawn for the projects in which problems have arisen while to carrying out them for the future development of the district. The President also emphasized that the objective of the development projects should be to alleviate poverty while giving equal opportunities to all. He stressed that when implementing these projects, the officials should identify the areas that should be given priorities.
President Sirisena apprised the officials regarding paving ways to improve economic standards of lives of the people in the process of achieving development goals. He added that to this objective could be achieved by developing the human resource as well as the physical resources.
After participating at the Special Coordination Committee Meeting the President made an inspection tour to review the development works being carried out in the district. During this inspection tour the President instructed the officials to take necessary steps to re-cultivate the abandoned paddy land.
He also reviewed the development works of the Kaduruwela Town and the Market Place. The President further instructed the officials to expedite the constructions works of the Market Place and to vest it with the public as soon as possible.
The Maha Sangha including Most Venerable Kandaketiye Aththadassi Thero, Chief Minister of the North Central Province, Peshala Jayarathna, Local Governments Ministers including Mr. Sydney Jayarathna, MP, Mr. Nalaka Kolonne, MP, Polonnaruwa District Secretary, Ranjith Ariyarathna and State officials participated in this meeting.
