The unveiling of the pinnacle of the newly constructed stupa at the historic Muhudu Maha Viharaya in Pothuvil in the East was held under the patronage of the President Maithripala Sirisena today (June 20).
The President met the President of All-island Amarapura Maha Sanga Sabha, chief prelate of the Sri Kalyanawansa Chapter Most Venerable Dodampahala Chandrasiri Thero and the Chief Incumbent of Muhudu Maha Vihara Most Venerable Warakapola Indrasiri Thero. The President also offered Atapirikara to the Chief Incumbents. He subsequently engaged in cordial discussions with Maha Sanga.
Most Venerable Warakapola Indrasiri thero requested the President to take action to provide a clear deed to the Muhudu Maha Viharaya as a sacred area. The President, while drawing his attention to the matter of the deed inquired about the other needs of the temple.
President Sirisena also planted a Na sapling in the premises to mark this occasion.
The President speaking at this occasion said the Eastern Province can be considered as region created national unity in our country. “This Province, being a region where Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims are living in harmony, showing the peace, unity and reconciliation, is giving an example to other Provinces in the country”, he said.
The Chief Incumbent of Panama Sri Bodhi Rukkaramaya and Chief Prelate of Digamadulu Disa Ven. Panama Chandraratana Thero presented a book written on the Panama Temple and other temples around it to President.
The President, after having cordial discussions with other religious leaders spoke to the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people gathered at this event.
Chief Incumbents and Maha Sanga, Fomer Minister Janaka Welgama, Mejor General Rohana Bandara, Chief Minister of North Central Province Mr. Daya Gamage, Eastern Province Governor, Medical Specialist Prof. Kapila Gunawardena were among those participated in this occasion.
