A religious ceremony was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Independence Square in Colombo today (03) to present the Scroll to the Dharmapala Wanshalankara Sadharama Keerthi Sri Tripitaka Visharadha Aggamaha Panditha Most Ven Kotugoda Dhammawasa MahanayakaThero for being elevated to the position of Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya.
During the ceremony the President presented the Sannaspathra (Scroll) to new Maha Nayaka Thero and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented the Vijinipatha (the traditional fan) to the Nayaka Thero.
A book containing Dhamma sermons delivered by Ven. Dhammawasa Thero was presented to the President on this occasion.
The President said the character of Most Ven. Dhammawasa Nayake Thero who is an educated, erudite and virtues Buddhist monk is exemplary to the young Buddhist monks.
The President also commended the service rendered by Ven. Dhammawasa Thero to Buddha Shasana and the society.
Most Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero was the Judicial Sangha Nayaka, General Secretary and Sama Maha Nayaka of Amarapura Chapter.
The Maha Sangha including the Maha Nayake Theros, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and other religious leaders, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Ministers and MPs participated in this event.
