“Sri Lanka Engineering Council formally established
September 17 of each year proclaimed as Sri Lanka Engineering Day
The President says that the country needs to introduce a method to stop the intellectuals and scholars leaving the country and to bring the professionals living abroad, back to Sri Lanka.
The President further added that, he expects the seniors and the professionals to come up with the suggestions in order to achieve this task.
Speaking at a function conducted by the Sri Lanka Engineering Council at the Irrigation Department Auditorium on September 17, the President said that the engineers and medical officers along with the other professionals leaving the country has become a major challenge in the development of country and with Sri Lanka being a democratic country there are no limitations, but everyone must understand their responsibilities towards the country.
The establishment of the Sri Lanka Engineering Council and the opening of its headquarters were also carried out by the President.
Meanwhile, the President also involved in proclaiming the September 17 of each year as Sri Lanka Engineering Day. This has come in the wake of the great service provided by the Sri Lanka engineering community in numerous constructions and also parallel to the opening of new headquarters of Sri Lanka Engineering Council.
The President also launched the official website of Sri Lanka Engineering Council. Chairman of Sri Lanka Engineering Council, Professor S.B.S. Abeykoon, Chairman – Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, Professor T.M. Pallewatta, President- Institution of Incorporated Engineers of Sri Lanka, Eng. P.A.D.R. Chandrasiri, Chairman, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission – Professor Dayantha. S. Wijesekara were also handed certificates by Sri Lanka Engineering Council through the President.
The President was also given a special souvenir.
Ministers, Patali Champika Ranawaka, P. Harrison along with the Secretary – Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Anura Dissanayake, some State Officers and experts in the field were present at the occasion.
