President opens Sri Lanka's first water sports and leisure park

[March 28, 2006 - 10.30 GMT]

“It is the onus of the government to help the local entrepreneurs launch industries,” President Rajapaksa said yesterday as he declared opened the country’s first ever leisure park in Kaluaggala, 43 kilometers from Colombo.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said local entrepreneurs should be enticed to launch industries. “However, the government will not hinder nor discourage foreign investors,” he said.

The President said it was a pleasure to open the park as the head of state, after laying the foundation stone while he was Prime Minister.

There are 19 water sports centers in this park, which spans 52 acres. Rare varieties of trees have been planted. There is also a shopping complex for visitors. It is equipped with an open-air theatre that can accommodate 500 persons at a time. Facilities have been provided to enable 2500 guests to enter the park at a time.
