President pays respects to Major General Kulatunga

President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid his last respects to late Major General Parami Kulatunga at his Kelaniya Residence on Tuesday (27). Maj-Gen Kulatunga the third highest ranking officer in the Sri Lankan Army was assassinated by a suicide bomber yesterday.

Major-General Kulatunga, the Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff, was traveling to a military base when his convoy was rammed by a motorcyclist, at 7.45 am yesterday, causing an explosion which killed the Major-General, his driver Sergeant Gomes and Corporal Buddika.

In a special message yesterday the President said “I pay a special tribute to Major General Kulatunga, an

exemplary officer in the Sri Lanka Army, whose qualities of leadership deserve emulation. On this sad occasion I wish to re-state my commitment to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka, and the democratic rights of all citizens of our country, for which cause Major General Kulatunga and the two others who were killed in this act of cowardice, gave their lives in such a tragic manner”.
