Bring the savings habit into power and
energy – President |
|
|
At a time when we are
not self sufficient in energy it is no small crime that
nearly 30% of the national supply of energy is allowed
to go waste. This takes place in homes, offices, on
the streets and every place where energy is used. It
is, therefore, necessary for us to take every measure
possible to be careful in the use of energy and conserve
it, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa launching the National
Programme for Energy Conservation at Temple Trees today.

tragedy of our politics, poisoned by terror and violence
that the LTTE which claims to seek liberation for the
Tamils saw in Mr. Amirthalingam one of their biggest
enemies.

Political musings |
| |
Time for course correction
J. Vitarana
|
|
|
President Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected President of
the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP) recently fulfilling
the expectations of the rank and file. His ascent to
the highest position was the ultimate reward for a long
and arduous journey in which his loyalty to the party
and its ideals never wavered for a moment. In this respect
he stands out as unique since his distinguished predecessors
in office had the position almost offered on a platter
with family playing a major role. On the contrary, loyalty
and struggle were his forte. What more, he is a man
with roots in the village. As he himself said on assuming
the office of President of Sri Lanka, he was not born
with a silver spoon in his mouth.
