President meets Muslim representatives

President Mahinda Rajapaksa today urged Muslim leaders to help resettle those displaced by the current situation in Muttur. The President said he would assure the displaced were provided with complete security.

The President was speaking at a discussion he had with Muslim representatives on the current situation in the East, this morning at the President’s Office, Colombo.

President Rajapaksa said the government was working towards recruiting a large number of Muslims as Home Guards to provided security to the displaced returning home.

He stressed that if the displaced did not return to Muttur it would be difficult to stop terrorist threats.

The President further said the government would rebuild the infrastructure and provide electricity within three days in Muttur and the Divisional Secretaries would help provided other facilities.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he would assure the safety of all communities.

Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana, Ministers Ferial Ashraff, L M Ashwar, A H M Fowzie, L H Athaulla, Najeed Majeed, Anvar Ismail, Ameer Ali, Rished Bathuideen, Hussain Baila, Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawela, Senior Advisor to the President Basil Rajapaksa and Muslim representative from Muttur participated in the discussion.
