Let us strengthen regional cooperation through sports – President

Sports officers of the participant countries at the 10th South Asian Games held in Colombo called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning. The representatives and members of the Sports and Athletic Associations who were also present thanked the President and the government for holding the Games on a grand scale.

They also presented the President with a souvenir.

President Rajapaksa said that the 10th SAG meet had provided a precious opportunity for all the participant countries to strengthen regional cooperation and it

would also become a stimulus for the South Asian athletes to participate at international meets with a sense of strength.

The Chief Minister of Assam Tharoon Gogol, Sports Minister of Bangladesh Fazloo Rahuman and Sri Lanka’s Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga were also present.

The National Olympic Committee Chairmen of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan and officials and the President of the Sri Lanka Olympic Committee along the heads of other Sports Associations also participated.
