President directs schools in the North to be re-opened immediately

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed the relevant authorities to immediately re-open schools for the children in the North. During the past few days the LTTE had instructed many schools in the area to close.

The President advised the Education Ministry Secretary to work towards reopening the schools by Monday, October 9. The President further noted that the children of the North and East have only their education to fall back on and that every measure should be taken to ensure that they receive it.

President Rajapaksa further said that there was no shortage in the supplying of food to the people of North and East and the all essential services were being provided efficiently by the government.

The President said the government was committed towards safeguarding the human rights of the people of the North and East and said the government would not allow any disruption to their everyday lives or to the education of their children.
