President
Mahinda Rajapaksa has recommended a National Action
Plan for Children and its speedy implementation next
year to prevent child abuse and ensure non-violation
of children’s rights.
President at the progress review
meeting of the Child Development and Women’s Empowerment
Ministry at Temple Trees yesterday. The President pointed
out the necessity of having ‘Day Care Centers’
in every State institution to take care of the employees’
children, which would undoubtedly enhance the service
quality.
The establishment of special welfare
projects to protect children of Lankan women expatriates
from various abuses was also recommended. Lengthy discussions
have been held, on the implementation of these projects
shortly.
President Rajapaksa was on the view
that our children were national assets, who are the
heirs who will take over the country’s future.
He directed the relevant officials to take appropriate
action in feeing children who are in prisons and detention
camps for various alleged offences, as they could also
be victims of various abuses.
He also directed officials to ascertain
the views of all schoolchildren, via the school principals,
when formulating the plans for children.
