Success through unshaken determination

I remain ready to talk to the LTTE - President
Rajapaksa
|
|
|
"I
have always said I am ready for negotiations with the
LTTE. I have said so earlier and I say so today, too.
In fact in my first statement on
assuming office as President I invited the LTTE for
negotiations. But their response was to begin attacking
unarmed members of the security forces and civilians,
from about a week after I made that request. They have
continued their violence with killings almost daily
since then," said President Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking
to Indian journalists at the Rural Litigation &
Empowerment Centre, at Dehradun where laid the foundation
stone for the Indo-Sri Lanka Human Right Centre for
SAARC today (Nov. 26. 06). |

Diversity has no place in LTTE's order
of things - President Rajapaksa
|
|
|
"The
South Asian region is beset with problems of human rights
violations. The impunity with which the LTTE in Sri
Lanka violates the human rights of the Tamil-speaking
people in particular, and the Sri Lankan people in general,
is a glaring example this. Any Tamil leader who does
not agree with their cruel and inhuman modes of operation
is killed by them. Dissent is not allowed by them from
any section of the Tamil community. A diversity of views,
- the hallmark of any democracy - has no place in their
order of things. |

The challenge of an inclusive consensus
- President Rajapaksa to Asian Mayors
|
|
|
"Urban
Good Governance also calls for an 'inclusive' approach
to the solving of urban problems. Most towns consist
of a diversity of persons and groups. To most towns,
people have migrated in the past from different parts
of the local region, bringing with them their own traditions
and cultural practices. Many towns are multi - ethnic,
multi - religious and multi - cultural in nature. They
are also invariably stratified according to economic
grade and class. Urban populations are also known to
belong to different political persuasions," said
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in his keynote address
as Chief Guest of the First Asian Mayors" Conference
at Dehradun, India, today (Sunday, November 26, 2006).
