At the Progress Review Meeting of the Ministry of Religious
Affairs held yesterday (20) at Temple Trees, Colombo,
President Mahinda Rajapaksa assured all citizens that
he is committed to safeguard their right to hold any
religious belief and practice their religion without
hindrances.
“Any person belonging to any community has the
right to live freely in any part of the country. There
will be no discrimination on racial, religious or caste
differences and development programmes will be implemented
so that the benefits will be distributed equitably among
all citizens,” he stated.
Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Muslim pilgrims visiting
places of religious worship in foreign lands will be
provided with adequate security and other facilities,
he said. It was also disclosed that arrangements would
be made by Mihin Lanka Airways to provide subsidized
air tickets to the pilgrims.
