will fully support efforts to defeat terrorism in Sri
Lanka said Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh
when he met President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (04)
at Vigayan Bhavan, New Delhi.
President Rajapaksa told dr. Singh
that the LTTE has violated the Ceasefire Agreement numerous
times and has used it to amass arms. He also informed
the Indian leader about the humanitarian mission conducted
by the Government to liberate the people of the Eastern
province from the clutches of the LTTE. The Government
is taking urgent steps to resettle the people displaced
due to the recent conflict in their original settlements
and improve their livelihood, assured the President.
Speaking on the human rights situation
the President told Dr. Singh that a Presidential Commission
is investigating complaints of human rights violations
and international observers have been given the opportunity
to observe the working of the Commission.
Dr. Manmohan Singh agreed that the
Sri Lanka Navy was not responsible for the killing of
a group of Indian fishermen recently. He agreed to initiate
a programme together with the Sri Lankan government,
for the safety of the South Indian fishermen.
