President Maithripala Sirisena arrived in Sanya, Hainan Province, China this (27) evening. He will address the Opening Plenary of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2015, tomorrow. Chinese President Xi Jinping will make the keynote address.
Proposed in 1998 by Fidel V. Ramos, former President of the Philippines, Bob Hawke, former Prime Minister of Australia, and Morihiro Hosokawa, former Prime Minister of Japan, BFA was formally inaugurated on February 27 2001. The purpose of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) is to base itself on Asia, promote, and deepen the economic exchange, coordination, and cooperation within Asia and between Asia and other parts of the world. It also aims to offer a high-end dialog platform for governments, enterprises, experts, and scholars to jointly discuss economy, society, and environment and other relevant issues. This year the Forum’s theme is Asia’s New Future: Towards a Community of Common Destiny.
Leaders and senior officials of Armenia, Austria, Indonesia, Nepal, Uganda, Zambia, Australia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Qatar, Sweden, Russia, and Thailand are scheduled to attend this year’s conference.
On the sidelines of the Conference, President Maithripala is expected to hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of Sweden tomorrow.
